The Electronic Industries Association of Japan (EIAJ) and Japan Electronic Industry Development Association (JEIDA) merged effective November 1, 2000, to enter the 21st century as the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA).

Principal product areas covered by JEITA are digital home appliances (digital TVs, VTRs, CD, MD and DVD players, etc.), computers (including automation equipment, information systems, and high-performance electronic parts and materials), industrial electronic equipment, electronic components (resistors, capacitors, coils, transformers, filters, connectors, switches, SMD, etc.) and electronic devices (electronic tubes, discrete semiconductor devices, ICs, LCDs, PDPs, etc.).

JEITA's main activities are supporting new technological fields, developing international cooperation, collecting and analyzing information, promoting standardization and so forth.
Intellectual Property and Technology Department plays a central role in the standardization activities of JEITA.
